The competition routine of Chen style Tai Ji Quan combines elements from the traditional Chen Old Frame and Chen New Frame routines.

It is famous for its distinctive rhythm and the magnificent postures. When practicing, it is important to emphasize Fa Jin (energy release), the spiral twisting force, relaxation, agility and Silk reeling (flow of movement) which are the special features of Chen style.

Chen Dao

Tai Ji Quan broadsword (Dao) teaches how to expand and contract during small fast circles using internal strength and use the gravity to create quick powerful energy surge that is being brought down onto a single blade.

All movements of well co-ordinated body, hands, eyes and footwork utilize the waist as a pivot and shake to release the force.
